It’s been a very busy week at the 2017 City Of Liverpool Tennis Tournament. Over the past 7 days, 220 players have competed in 297 matches on 6 indoor courts for a total of 73 hours.
It was a very enjoyable week and we were delighted to have players and their families travelling from across Great Britain to compete here in Liverpool and we really are greatful to everyone who supported the tournament.
Like any tennis tournament, it wasn’t without a small number of incidents and it still amazes me that tennis is the only sport that we ask children to officiate their own matches without an umpire. Can you imagine a junior football match with no referee? But in the main the tournament was a pleasure to organise and it was great to see so many old friends and to meet some great new people too.
A special thank you to our referee Mike McBrien and to all the staff at Liverpool Tennis Centre who worked so hard to make everyone feel welcome. When we do big events, I remember how lucky we are to have such a fantastic team of friendly and hard-working staff like we have at Liverpool Tennis Centre. They really come into their own when we host competitions and the team take a lot of pride in welcoming visitors to Liverpool. A special thank you as well to our partners at HEAD and TBS Sports.
There is nothing I enjoy more than running tennis competitions and seeing players of all standards on court competing. We try and deliver the best service we can in Liverpool with the resources with have and we are always learning and looking to improve. Thank you to everyone who supported us this week and we look forward to seeing you again soon.
